To do quality service doesn't mean we always have to do help those thousands of miles away in dire situations. Many times there are needs within our own neighborhoods and that is what the "Community Committee" focuses on. We work to build relationships in our greater North Shore community by offering our help to organizations who embody similar values in service. We are always looking for new avenues to engage in, so feel free to reach out to us and let us know how we can help!
Some of Our Events:

During the year, we support local events by volunteering at community functions. Often times we help run games, distribute food, and paint faces! Some of the events we support are: Flight Fest, Spooktacular, Elementary School Carnivals, GCCNS Fall Fun Fair, PizzaMania, and Empty Bowls. During the holiday season we work with the Northern Illinois Foster Family Association and help host the Foster Family Holiday Party at the Park Center (Glen). This is a time where young foster children can come and swim at the pool with our volunteers. Swimming is followed by crafts and dinner all provided by Key Club and NIFFA.
Once a quarter we visit Kirk School in Palatine, which is a school for special needs students. During our time there, we meet the students in the gym and have a themed dance (based on season) where our students dance and play with the Kirk School students. It is a great way to get exposure to the special needs community. The historic landmark in Glenview is always looking for extra help and we at Key Club consistently respond to that call. Whether it be helping in running events or maintenance, if there is a need, we do our best to fill it. This year we are planning to be more intentional with how we engage with the middle and junior high schools who feed into GBS. It is our hope to establish a foundation of service at the middle school level so that as incoming freshman, students would already know first hand the importance of putting service over themselves. |
