These are the stories of our members who serve at our events.
“The girl I was working with lost one of her hands as a baby. She was telling me how her mom and older sisters were struggling financially, and her dad had died when she was only one year old. She still managed to smile and share with all her friends around her, which was really inspiring to me. Even though she was only 7, she was by far one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. In Glenview, we’re so privileged and unaware of the struggles the rest of the world goes through, so Eat n’ Art helped me see how blessed I am and how I have the power to make a difference.” |
"Growing up, my mom would always set aside time to read with me every night. All learning comes from reading no matter if it's in science or social studies. If kids don't have that in the beginning of their lives, it's going to be really hard for them to learn that skill later on. It feels crazy to think you could make a difference in someone's life in just an hour and a half." |
"The discussion before we went on FMSC gave me a sense of purpose. Talking with others made me realize why I was there. I remember in eighth grade whenever I volunteered, we didn't have a discussion beforehand. This time, I really had a "why?" aspect of what we were doing." |
"The most memorable part of the experience was the end. The girls I had worked with were very friendly and you could see how quickly they connected with me and the other Titans. They were upset to see us go, and it was just really special to me that they were able to open up and be so outgoing, considering many of them came from war torn areas within the past year. I was drawn to this event because I love working with younger children that I can see open up and smile." |
“As a teacher, the things that jump out at you are different. How they responded to you guys and the excitement that came from them was because they wanted to show off for you guys. That just goes to show that when you least expect it, your presence can have a positive twist. It was a very beautiful and moving day to witness.” |
